Samira Il Naia
Samira is the director of Cairo Fusion, including Mazana, Isis and the Gypsy Echoes.
"Since 1997, I have dabbled in the mysterious world of bellydance. In 2000, I became an independent soloist and the premiere dancer of Nada Brahma, an eclectic Boise-based band. I have also had the honor of collaborating with Brothers of the Baladi, Jeremiah Soto, Mediterranean RaqsBand, and Pangia. I feel that I will always be a student of the dance, and have been fortunate enough to take classes from Sidonia Om Dunia, Amy Sigil, Suhaila Salimpour, Rachel Brice, Morocco, Zoe Jakes, Mardi Love, Freyja, Kami Liddle, and Monica Fernandez. In solo performance, I seek to demonstrate the importance of audience participation while specializing in the art of progressive bellydance fusion, improvisational dance, and the essential dancer/live musician connection."
Samira's qualifications as one of our judges lies in the Experimental and Cabaret Fusion categories, along with performer musicality. Samira has trained extensively in Egyptian, Turkish, American, and many folkloric forms of cabaret bellydance. She specializes in Progressive Fusion bellydance and creates most of the music for her dance company, giving her great insight to the experimental side of both music and performance.
Samira Il Naia is honored to be a judge and a Fusion Fest 2010 workshop instructor.
